The Mind Your Sport Approach

In my work I use a combination of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) and Hypnosis.

There are some athletes who believe they only perform consciously. I don't say these next words very often, they are wrong !

Athletes are fantastic examples of what humans can achieve when they combine their conscious and subconscious minds.

It is for this reason the Mind Your Sport approach uses techniques that access both the conscious and subconscious mind and resources.

Mental Performance Training will allow you to best utilise the resources and talent and hard work you invest in your sport.  Without the hard work of training technically and physically it will give you very little. However, if you combine physical, technical and mental training  then the sky litterally is the limit.

Now a brief word about each of those technical terms.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Quickly stated, CBT is a set of techniques and approaches whose aim is to help the subject to a better understanding of themselves. Aboout how thoughts create feelings which in turn create behaviours. I use this approach so that athletes by gaining an understanding of themselves will begin to become aware of negative thoughts and patterns of behaviour and choose to learn more beneficial  ways of being.

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)

NLP provides fantastic tools for helping us to change existing patterns of behaviour into more favourable ones. It's advantage in application to sports is that it is quick, effective and has an approach of going forward into the future rather than mulling around in the past. Athletes, I find, are bottom-line kind of people that want to see efficiency in their work. For this reason NLP is a great fit for sports

Hypnosis

There is a good deal of misunderstanding about hypnosis. However, I am sure that many of you are aware that many top sports stars either have used hypnosis a few times or use it regularly. It is such a fantastic tool to get into our subconscious and access all those positive resources in there.  We can use it for motivation, for visualisation and for clearing out any mental blocks we might have.
