I hope you have already managed to get a feel from this website how passionate I am about helping athletes to get the most out of their performances.
So now a few details about me.
I was born in 1957 near Sheffield, England. A rough, tough steel and coal mine area in the North Of England. Home to many great athletes, some great rugby teams and one or two football teams.
I played rugby, football and athletics at regional level at school. I was badly injured at the age of 16 and although continued to compete at a high level I never recovered mentally from the injury and was troubled by fear of re-injury and worries about the time I had lost. I feel this held me back from achieving what I could have. A private fantasy ? Perhaps. But it has made me determined to help ALL athletes I can now to reach absolutely their highest potential.
I have tried my hands - and feet - at many different sports with varying degrees of success, I have enjoyed them all - and that is success in itself. I have played, football, rugby, athletics, judo, karate, sailing, squash.
The athletes I work with are involved in many different sports. Athletics, boxing, golf, tennis, basketball, rugby, equestrianism. For me, sport is fascinating, rewarding, challenging, frustrating, stimulating....... I could go on an on and on (as some of my athletes will no doubt agree !!!!).
As a spectator sport, athletics has always been my great love. I guess this goes back to the days of watching athletics with my dear old Dad on Saturday afternoons in England. He was also extremely passionate about sport, just ask my Mum.
Although he was a great patriot and would never allow a bad word about an English performance he was moved by great performances by athletes of any nationality. I particulary remember great moments watching Ron Clarke of Australia in the 1960's smashing world records. The man who never won an Olympic Gold, but smashed so many world records. There was something about this man's quiet demeanour, his courage and deternination to challenge and push himself beyond his existing limits. My Dad has now sadly passed away, but I am sure he would have appreciated and understood my decision to leap out into a new life and get back to sport.
So, who are my heroes today. have a look around the website for photos of my heroes. And for those of you who are my clients already, yes you are my heroes too, for your devotion, drive, determination and passion for excellence.
I am sure its a lot to do with him that my next greatest dream is to help an athlete perform in an Olympic final and win a medal. So if you are an athlete with your dreams set on the Olympics, give me a call and let's set you on your way to both our dreams.
I started my further education as an astrophysicist but finally graduated as an engineer because of my fear of employment possibilities after graduation. (there was that fear again - just in another disguise).
After graduation I quickly changed direction to computer programming.
I worked as a self-employed computer consultant and datebase designer for about 24 years before realising that my great passion was still sport and the pursuit of human excellence.
I have spent many years now educating and training myself in psychotherapy, NLP, coaching and hypnotherapy. I am now a full-time therapist specialing in sports performance. I am a certified coach, certified NLP Practitioner, certified Hypnotherapist and Hypnosis Instructor, belonging to the worlds most respected certification organisation.
Having followed this long path to where I am now, I have much to offer my clients. A wide variety of techniques and tools to help them to free their minds, let their bodies perform, use their subconscious intelligence and reach new heights of performance.
As many of my clients will perhaps tell you, I am passionate about this area of sport, that so many talk about yet fewer put into practice.
It is now a goal in my life to bring this extremely important area of sport onto the mental map of all those involved with sport. One thing we need to do in the mental coaching profession is get out there into the arena and involve ourselves with our athletes, immerse ourselves in their worlds, understand them.
All good coaches know that we cannot understand athletes by only having sessions with them in the office, we have to get out there and experience them in action. Feel their worries, their concerns. Share their pain and joy.
I hope you can feel that as my client I will give you all I have to help you up to achieve those goals you want. All you have to do is call and let's get started.
